Hafıza Merkezi in Turkey, Museum of Memory and Human Rights, Chile
Connecting Past to Present: Towards a New Model inspired by the Museum of Memory and Human Rights (Santiago, Chile) (Peer Exchange): Through a peer exchange, Hafiza Merkezi leveraged Museum of Memory and Human Rights experience to foster Intergenerational Dialogue. Hafiza Merkezi’s staff learned innovative methods to engage multiple generations in sharing their experiences and perceptions of past and present human rights abuses, with a strong emphasis on gender perspectives. They also formed collaborations with other Chilean memory initiatives in Santiago. Inspired by MMDH’s partnerships with women’s movements, Hafiza Merkezi aims to cultivate similar relationships in Turkey. The insights gained during the exchange have been instrumental in launching the “Memory and Youth Project,” which commenced in March 2024 and will run until January 2025.
Foundation for Peace and Development in DRC, in partnership with The Herstories Archive in Sri Lanka
Mentoring-consultancy from The Herstories Project to Foundation for Peace and Development: Assessing, building capacity, and developing a concept note to document conflict-related sexual violence and physical abuse in women and girls in the Ituri province (Mentoring Exchange): This particular exchange faced changes and delays due to the situation on the ground in the DRC, resulting in a halt in project activities during part of the year. Activities have been resumed and after successfully completing online activities, including community meetings and a storytelling workshop, the new phase aims to compile 10 stories/narratives of community members using artistic methodologies such as Body Mapping applying the co-creative Correcting the Record methodology.
The Committee for Human Rights: NIDO 20 in Chile
Intergenerational Dialogues (On-Site): NIDO 20 implemented 4 Intergenerational Dialogue sessions with the aim of connecting youth who participated in the 2019 social protests and victims of the Chilean civil-military dictatorship in discussing human rights. Each meeting focused on a central topic, using an object-based methodology to start the conversation. Topics discussed were political violence, repression, justice and impunity; resistance; organization and militancy; and real possibilities of change. The objects displayed were photographs, books, opposition magazines, pamphlets and scarves amongst others. NIDO 20 has developed a Toolkit (in Spanish) on Intergenerational Dialogues for Memory and Human Rights detailing the project process and produced an Audiovisual Piece compiling all sessions.
