The Taft Museum of Art’s mission is to provide meaningful experiences by connecting people with great art, both in a historic setting and in the community.

Established in 1932 as the Taft Museum of Art (TMA), TMA is the former house of Charles and Anna Taft, who bequeathed their home (1820) and art collection to the people of Cincinnati. We are also home to 8 renowned Robert S. Duncanson’s murals. Duncanson, a black artist, was commissioned in 1850-1852 by white arts-patron Nicholas Longworth to paint the then foyer of his primary residence. The murals are now recognized as the most significant pre–Civil War domestic murals in the United States and are one of the Taft Museum of Art’s largest artworks, second only to the house itself. TMA presents a variety of exhibitions, engaging cultural/historical/art thought-provoking programming for all ages, and maintains the historic Taft house and garden.
