The Whitney Plantation is the only plantation museum in the state of Louisiana with an exclusive focus on slavery. Visitors are invited to remember individuals held in bondage in Louisiana in a series of original memorials built on the grounds of this sugar and rice plantation.
The plantation retains 14 original structures dating to the late 18thcentury, including slave cabins, a Creole barn, detached kitchen and owner’s residence. The visitor center includes a comprehensive exhibit about slavery in Louisiana as well as a rotating gallery with temporary exhibitions.
