Founded in 1989 by Bishop Samuel Ruiz García of the Diocese of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Centro de Derechos Humanos Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas (Frayba) documents and litigates violations of human rights in Chiapas, Mexico. These include forced displacement and disappearances, arbitrary deprivation of liberty, extrajudicial executions and torture, among other issues.
Frayba helps the most disadvantaged sectors of society to overcome their socio-economic and political situations through the promotion of human rights, the preservation of historical memory, and the development of a culture of dialogue.
