A nonprofit civil society group, Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo (GAM) was formed in 1984 to bring together the families of people illegally detained and forcibly disappeared in Guatemala during the country’s Internal Armed Conflict (1960 to 1996). GAM’s scope of work includes advocating for justice for the disappeared and dignity for all victims. GAM also prepares thematic reports on current rates of violence and the effectiveness of institutions that make up the security and justice sector in Guatemala today.
