The Lower Falls Foundation, founded in 2016, is growing the national presence of Rochester‘s Lower Falls Region in New York by empowering community neighbors, fostering pride in the natural landscape, and bridging the narrative between celebrating local history and telling the story of structural inequality. Since the organization’s inception, Lower Falls has hosted park maintenance days bringing in local college students and volunteers, as well as historic walking tours.
In collaboration with local teachers, Lower Falls also hosts school groups for field trips. Their goal is to share historical narratives with visitors from the Upstate NY community and inspire Rochesterians to challenge the status quo. These Lower Falls stories epitomize the solutions needed to empower today’s movements for human rights and to build greater pride in the community.
