The Cultural Park of Valparaiso is a place of memory, cultural center and public space that promotes cultural participation and human rights, for the construction and formation of critical citizenship. The Parque Cultural de Valparaíso seeks to connect with new citizens, in search of the transformations needed by society today, through cultural challenges. Transformation is part of the nature of this space: what today is the main cultural infrastructure of the region, yesterday was a former prison.
Now, more than ten years after the construction of the cultural infrastructure, it is one of the most important cultural facilities in the Valparaíso Region, with green areas and a viewpoint overlooking the hills and the bay of Valparaíso. It has two national monuments and has first class equipment for the promotion of various artistic disciplines. This public space is an experience that places the public and communities in a Site of Memory and in a historical place, both for the material heritage and for the history of the place where it is located. This public space is an experience that places the public and communities in a Site of Memory and a historical place, as much for the material heritage as for the history of the place where it is located.
