Pearl S. Buck International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the 19th century historic Pearl Buck House into a 21st century intercultural learning experience. Best known for bridging east and west cultures, author Pearl Buck was a leading advocate for social justice throughout her life, from the time she arrived in America from China in 1935.
Buck vowed to eliminate the “evils of racism” and to do so she joined the NAACP, Urban League, and partnered with Paul and Eslanda Robeson, W.E.B. DuBois, Mary McLeod Bethune and a host of scholars in the forefront of examining the American ‘dilemma.’ Buck expressed her passion for equality and justice in her books, articles, papers, speeches and letters, championing diversity and immigration as America’s greatest strength.
Pearl Buck saw the disconnect between democratic ideals and the inequity that are still evident today but knew the solution involved bringing people together to celebrate difference. Pearl S. Buck International will revive her simple and direct words to inspire solutions, bring people together to converse and experience Pearl S. Buck’s global village and intercultural world view.
