The Abandonment Museum is a project that emerged in a void of information, interest, and awareness regarding the fact that abandonment is one of the great dramas of Romanian society. In three years of existence, the Abandonment Museum has transformed into a true institution: with an archive of nearly 20,000 items that outline the reality of abandonment in Romania, a research team, and important collaborations with international museum institutions (from the War Childhood Museum in Sarajevo to the House of European History in Brussels).
The Abandonment Museum was honored in 2022 at the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN) Awards Gala with the Prize for Social Inclusion and Intercultural Dialogue and at the Civil Society Gala with three First Prizes in the categories: Art and Culture, Social Impact, and Communication Campaigns on Social Issues. In 2023, it received the Golden Award for Excellence in Art and Culture at the Romanian PR Awards. In 2024 it was awarded First Prize in the Art and Culture Section and the Social Impact Prize for “Unboxing the Abandonment Museum – Live Museum” at the Civil Society Gala.
